A GSWA Visit to the Kate Downie Exhibition in Edinburgh

GSWA members and friends were invited by the artist Kate Downie RSA to her exhibition entitled “Grasslands” at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh. Kate gave an engaging and highly entertaining talk on the research and drawings which went into creating this exhibition, which took several years to come to completion. She talked about her use of natural things around us, her experimentation with materials including stone paint and he printmaking techniques.The resulting drawings, paintings and prints alongside supporting sketchbooks and other material on show is highly worth the trip to Edinburgh. The Scottish Gallery on Dundas Street, is a rare quiet corner of the city and the atmosphere inside the exhibition space is very tranquil. Go on a nice day and step into its sculpture garden, far from the madding crowd.
