Glasgow Society of Women Artists monthly talks begins its new programme for Autumn and Winter

The new Autumn Winter season of Afternoon talks begins on Monday the 1st of September with our guest the highly acclaimed and award winning artist Rosemary Beaton.

Rosemary found early fame at the tender age of 20 when she won the prestigious National Portrait Award, becoming the youngest ever recipient. The early years of her artistic career were as part of the new Glasgow Girls. As a group of friends from Glasgow School of Art, they began making waves on the art scene as they found acclaim from galleries and critics alike, following on from the meteoric rise of the Glasgow Boys of the 1980s and 90’s. The girls did it for themselves, always colour-filled, and exploring new artistic territory in landscape, flora and figurative subjects but with an innovative female perspective.

Rosemary’s career has been one marked by frequent solo and mixed exhibitions, collaborations, stained glass design, portrait commissions as well as public art. She approaches each commission and new subject with boldness, incisive mark- making and a joyful exuberance emanating from her paintings.

The Afternoon talks are held at the Kelvinside Hillhead church hall on Observatory Rd, Glasgow. Doors open at 12pm and the speaker will commence at 1.15 Tea and coffee served at the conclusion of the demonstration. £5 payable at the door to non-members; £4 for GSWA members.
